Here at the Academic Computing Center, a lot of items get left behind (dishes, clothes, flash drives, etc.). In cases where the owner or the owner's academic program can be identified, we'll reach out and let them know their items are safe and available for pick-up. But it's not always possible to find a direction in which to look, and sometimes people don't check back with us.
====To add an Exchange account to your iOS device====
[[File:Ios-mail1.png|200px|thumb|right]]
#tap '''Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Add Account > Microsoft Exchange'''.
#On the next screen, enter your complete Evergreen email address, domain (evergreen.edu), Evergreen username, password, and a description (which may be anything you like).
#Your iOS device will now try to locate your Exchange Server using Microsoft's Autodiscovery service. If it cannot locate the server, you will see the screen below. Enter your front-end Exchange Server's complete address in the Server field.
#*'''Server = securemail.evergreen.edu'''
#Your iOS device will try to create a secure (SSL) connection to your Exchange Server.
#Choose which type or types of data you would like to synchronize: Mail, Contacts, and Calendars.
#Note that by default, only three days' worth of email is synchronized. To synchronize more, go into Settings, then Mail, Contacts, Calendars, select your Exchange account, and tap on Mail days to sync.

====How your device will be affected after configuring an Exchange ActiveSync account====
#You will be required to use a passcode to lock your phone
#all existing contact and calendar information on the iOS device is overwritten
#iTunes no longer syncs contacts and calendars with your desktop computer. You can still sync your iOS device wirelessly with MobileMe services.

====Troubleshooting tips====
*Try deleting the account and creating it from scratch. As long as you are entering the correct settings this seems to fix most problems
Student Computer Purchasing

Cc dylan01:

__NOTOC__
====Computer Purchasing Advice====

Most students find having a laptop computer at school especially helpful. We support both Mac and PC platforms at Evergreen and we have wireless access and printing as well. The decision whether to purchase a Mac or a PC laptop depends on the focus of the student's studies and preference -- what software to include would depend on that as well.

For instance, if the student will be taking classes in media a Mac would be preferred. Some programs or curricular pursuits, such as classes in digital film, are for the majority, done with Macintosh software. However, this is not to say that a PC with the proper Adobe products could not do the same tasks. We suggest the student get in touch with those specific unit providers on campus for more information. If you have any questions about who to contact call the Computer Center/Academic Computing at (360) 867-6227

====Minimum Specs====
The following base minimum requirements are recommended to last the duration of your studies:
* 2+ GHz Processor
* 4 GB RAM
* 500 GB Hard drive
* Ethernet Ready
* Wireless (802.11 g/n)
* Bluetooth
* Combo Drive (DVD-R/CD-R/W)
* Mac OS 10.5 or higher or Windows XP/Vista/7
====Advanced Specs====
Students desiring a powerful video or media editing machine should look into multiple core processors, 64 bit operating systems and large quantities of ram. Most advanced Macintosh desktops and laptops are purpose built for media editing, and higher end PC's can do the same.

====Software====

The Evergreen State College Bookstore offers special reduced "Academic Pricing" on many software suites and they maintain a [http://www.tescbookstore.com/software_info.asp current list] of discounted software. This includes Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, Pagemaker, Corel, TurboCad and many more.

Many of our current Mac native students enjoy the benefits of the most recent release of iLife, Mac's creative software suite. iLife is present on all our Macintosh computers in the lab and allows for easy editing of photos, video and audio. iLife is available for purchase from Apple.

The all-around most useful software to include is Microsoft Office for writing papers and presentations, however [http://openoffice.org OpenOffice.org], a freeware Microsoft Office style program is also available and now has a native version for Mac OS X. Open Office can open and save in Microsoft Word and Excel formats.

====Peripherals====
An external storage device, either a hard drive or a USB thumb drive, is an excellent resource for both data backup and data transportation. Media students should strongly consider purchasing a large external hard drive, 1 terabyte or more if they plan on editing and moving digital film projects around campus. A large external hard drive can be purchased from many local retailers as well as several sites online.

USB thumb drives, usually found in 2GB increments, can be purchased at The Evergreen State College Bookstore, as well as almost all department stores. Thumb drives are the perfect way to take your documents into our lab for printing.

====Computer Purchasing Advice====

====Computer Purchasing Advice====

We suggest the student get in touch with those specific unit providers on campus if necessary for more information. If you have any questions about who to contact call the Computer Center/Academic Computing at (360) 867-6227
The all-around most useful software to include is Microsoft Office for writing papers and presentations, however [http://openoffice.org OpenOffice.org], a freeware Microsoft Office style program is also available and now has a native version for Mac OS X. Open Office can open and save in Microsoft Word formats.

We suggest the student get in touch with those specific unit providers on campus if necessary for more information. If you have any questions about who to contact call the Computer Center/Academic Computing.
