Ordwayehttp://helpwiki.evergreen.edu/wiki/index.php?title=Requesting_New_Wordpress_Plugins_and_Themes&diff=18425Requesting New Wordpress Plugins and Themes2013-01-10T23:36:15Z
Ordwaye: /* To request new plugins: */

Criteria for Plugins and Widgets
Plugin and Widget requests are evaluated on a number of criteria:

*Plugins and widgets must add new functionality to WordPress, the should not replicate built in functionality.
*Plugins and widgets must be stable
*Plugins and widgets are common shared resources. They should be useful for the larger Evergreen wordpress community
*Plugins and widgets should not extend the functionality of a service to make it more like a different service. For instance, plugins should not make the blog service more like a wiki. The wiki service provides that functionality.
*Plugins and Widgets must be actively developed. Plugins that are outdated will not be installed
*Plugin and Widget code must meet web development best practices

When requesting a plugin or a widget, try to provide as much information as possible. If there's more than one plugin that does the same thing, include links to the other plugins in your request. The plugin that you're requesting may work better for you, but one of the others may be more appropriate for everyone.

To request new plugins:
#Make sure we don't already have a plugin that has the functionality you need. See Plugin Overview
#Look through the Wordpress Plugin Directory to determine which plugin(s) best suit your needs and adheres to the criteria listed above.
#Copy down the name and url of the plugin you prefer as well as those of one or two additional plugins that accomplish the same functionality as your preferred plugin.
#Email Academic Computing and wait. Even if a plugin works fantastically on its own, there's the possibility that it may cause a system crash when combined with another plugin on blogs.evergreen.edu.

Tips for requesting a plugin or a widget
#Include the official link from Wordpress.org when it's available.
#When looking for a plugin or a widget, try browsing the Wordpress Plugin Directory or the Wordpress Widget Directory first and reading through user reviews to determine if the plugin in question is of good quality.
#Look for popular plugins first.

__NOTOC__

Network file space is a protected folder on the network which is available to all Evergreen staff and faculty by default, and for students upon enrolling in a class.

Student shares created this way are located on a server called Orca.

Faculty and staff will continue to use network file space on the server Hurricane.

If you are a student in the Media Arts, you may also have filespace available on Nimrod. Space on this server is available only through your academic program.

Why use it?
*You might lose your thumbdrive (flashdrive).
*If your hard drive stops working, you might not be able to extract your files from it.
*Evergreen's servers are backed up every 24 hours, which means your data is safe.
*Files saved on servers are accessible from all campus computers. You can also access them from home using the secure WebDAV protocol.

The Servers
*Orca is the primary file server for academic resources. This server hosts academic program shares, individual student shares (generated automatically), academic workgroups and research shares. For questions about or requests concerning Orca, please contact Academic Computing.
*Hurricane is the primary file server for Faculty & Staff personal file shares as well as staff work areas. For additional help with hurricane filespace, or to request a new fileshare on Hurricane, please contact Client Services at 867-6627.
*Nimrod is the primary fileserver for students and faculty in the media arts. Nimrod is not backed up or available off campus. For help with this resource, contact the folks at Electronic Media.
Network file space is a protected folder on the network which is available to all Evergreen staff and faculty by default, and for students upon enrolling in a class.

Student shares created this way are located on a server called Orca. Orca replaces the servers Calawah & Masu.

Faculty and staff will continue to use network file space on the server Hurricane.

If you are a student in the Media Arts, you may also have filespace available on Nimrod. Space on this server is available only through your academic program.

Why use it?
*The floppy disk in your back pack will quit working some day.
*You will inevitably lose your thumbdrive (flashdrive) somewhere.
*If your hard drive stops working, you might not be able to extract your files from it.
*Evergreen's servers are backed up every 24 hours, which means your data are safe.
*Files saved on servers are accessible from all campus computers. You can also access them from home using the secure WebDAV protocol.

The Servers

The Servers
*Hurricane is the primary file server for Faculty & Staff personal file shares as well as staff work areas. For additional help with hurricane filespace, or to request a new fileshare on Hurricane, please contact Technical Support Services at 867-6627.
*Orca is the primary file server for academic resources. This server hosts academic program shares, individual student shares (generated automatically), academic workgroups and research shares. For questions about or requests concerning Orca, please contact Academic Computing.

__NOTOC__

Network file space is a protected folder on the network which is available to all Evergreen staff and faculty by default, and for students by request. For students, once you have activated your @evergreen account, you can request personal file space through my.evergreen.edu. Student shares created this way are located on a server called Calawah. If you are a student in the Media Arts, you may also have filespace available on Nimrod, or if you are in the sciences you may have space on Masu. Spaces on these last two servers are available only through your academic program. See the notes below about how to contact these areas for help.

Connecting to Evergreen's File Servers
Faculty & Staff personal file shares as well as staff work areas are hosted on Hurricane. For help with hurricane filespace, please contact Technical Support Services at 867-6627
