Tascam Mixcast 4

Inputs

As a USB audio interface, the Mixcast has 14 inputs to the computer. When using the Mixcast to record into a Digital Audio Workstation software such as Ableton Live, Audition, Pro Tools, or REAPER, inputs 1-14 to the computer correspond to the following sources from the Mixcast:

  1. Mixcast Main Mix Left
  2. Mixcast Main Mix Right
  3. Microphone 1
  4. Microphone 2
  5. Microphone 3
  6. Microphone 4
  7. USB (main output from computer) Left
  8. USB (main output from computer) Right
  9. Aux in (1/8" stereo mini cable) Left
  10. Aux in (1/8" stereo mini cable) Right
  11. Bluetooth in Left
  12. Bluetooth in Right
  13. Mixcast Sound Pads Left
  14. Mixcast Sound Pads Right

When recording directly to an SD card on the Mixcast, all sources are recorded to one Polywav file. The 14 channels appear in a slightly different within the Polywav file compared to when using the Mixcast as a USB audio interface. The 14 layers within the Mixcast are:

  1. Microphone 1
  2. Microphone 2
  3. Microphone 3
  4. Microphone 4
  5. USB (main output from computer) Left
  6. USB (main output from computer) Right
  7. Aux in (1/8" stereo mini cable) Left
  8. Aux in (1/8" stereo mini cable) Right
  9. Bluetooth in Left
  10. Bluetooth in Right
  11. Mixcast Sound Pads Left
  12. Mixcast Sound Pads Right
  13. Mixcast Main Mix Left
  14. Mixcast Main Mix Right

See "Exploding a Polywav File in REAPER" for the steps to extract individual tracks from this Polywav file.

In general, the inputs of the Mixcast appear in the order they appear on the faders, but when used as a USB audio interface the main output will appear on channels 1 and 2, whereas the main mix appears on channels 13 and 14 of a Polywav file that the Mixcast can record independently.

Outputs

As a USB audio interface, the Mixcast can receive 2 outputs from the computer. The main output of the computer, whether that is sound playing out of a web browser, the output of a Zoom call, or the main mix output of a DAW, comes back to the Mixcast on the USB channel (a stereo channel, one fader for both left and right). This output can be listened to on headphones or the speakers at the computer desk.
