Personal network file space can be accessed from home, but files on Scratch can't. Scratch is only available on campus.

Please check that you have not manually configured the DNS servers on your network connection. If you use external DNS (such as Google DNS at 8.8.8.8) then you might get the outside address of one of our local servers, instead of the inside address.

Unfortunately, Scratch is completely open to everyone. That means anyone can delete a file. If the disk fills up, IT staff will purge the oldest contents.  In other words, this space is TEMPORARY, your files will get removed. This is especially true at the end of the quarter. Scratch is great if you're moving between computers. It's not good for any long term or important storage.

Why is the Internet so slow?

Evergreen strives to provide students with a fast network connection in nearly all areas of the campus. If you are having connectivity issues, please contact the helpdesk for support. Even in the dorms area, you should be able to have reliable, fast network access.

Is it ok to connect my personal computer to the network?

Yes, absolutely! The College offers the TESCWireless Wi-Fi network for use by anyone, and the Evergreen Secure Wi-Fi network for use by students and employees.

I am having trouble reaching sites here, but they work fine from home or from one of the college computers?

Please check that you have not manually configured the DNS servers on your network connection. If you use external DNS (such as Google DNS at 8.8.8.8) then you might get the outside address of one of our local servers, instead of the inside address.
