This guide will help you set up Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) using your phone to receive verification codes via text message (SMS) or voice call.
Follow the steps below to configure this method.
Step 1: Switch to other MFA option
Choose your preferred method. We strongly recommend using the Microsoft Authenticator App for its security and convenience.
- If you wish to choose an option other than the Authenticator App click on the link I want to setup a different option.
- Chose the phone option
Step 2: Enter Your Phone Number
- Choose your country and enter your phone number.
- Select one of the following options:
- Text me a code (SMS).
- Call me (voice call).
Step 3: Verify Your Phone
- You will receive a code via text or a phone call.
- Enter the verification code into the setup page to confirm your phone number.
Tips for Using Phone-Based MFA
- Ensure you have reliable cellular coverage when using SMS or voice calls for MFA.
- Be cautious of potential security risks with SMS, such as SIM-swapping attacks. If possible, consider using the Microsoft Authenticator App instead.
- Always keep a secondary MFA method (like the Authenticator App or hardware token) as a backup in case of phone issues.
