Automation

Volume, Pan and any effect parameter can be automated
Recording Automation Data in Real-Time.
- In the Mixer window click the Automation Play button to enable automation (Triangle button should be green).
- Click the Automation Record button so that it is red.
- Start playback. Do not click the Record button or arm any audio tracks.
- Any fader or pan changes will be recorded.
- Click the Stop button
- Click the Automation Record button so that it is no longer red.
- Start playback to listen to the automation.
Drawing Automation Data
- In the Mixer window click the Automation Play button to enable automation (Triangle button should be green).
- In Sequence Editor pick a track and change the active layer from Soundbites to Volume.
- If the Tool palette is not open, open it by pressing the shift and O.
- Click on the Pencil tool. Next to the Pencil tool you can change the shape of the line to be drawn. Parabola's are good for fade in and fade outs.
- On the track, click and draw where you want the automation to occur.
- Press Play to playback automation.
Editing Automation Data
- Use the Arrow tool to select automation points. Hold down the Shift to select multiple points.
- Use the I-Beam tool to select automation by dragging.
- After automaton is selected it can be deleted by pressing the Delete key or copied with Edit > Copy ⌘C.
- To paste data click where you want to paste and choose Edit > Merge.
- Edit > Paste will add the automation data and the audio file from where you copied. Edit >Merge adds only the automation data.
