How to change a computer's settings so you may input text using different languages.
Mac OS X 10.7 Lion
To turn on input source for a language
- From the Apple menu (upper left corner of screen), select System Preferences, click Language & Text.
- Select the tab labeled Input Sources.
- Select the language that you would like to add by clicking on the checkbox next to it.
- Click on the Show Input menu in menu bar checkbox. Exit the window.
- To select/toggle between languages, click on the flag icon in the menu bar (upper right corner of screen).
To turn on the Keyboard Viewer
- From the Apple menu, select System Preferences, click Language & Text and then click Input Sources.
- Click the Keyboard & Character Viewer checkbox.
- Make sure the checkbox next to each input source you want to use is selected and that Show Input menu in menu bar is also checked.
Windows 7
- Navigate to the Control Panel. Under Clock, Language, and Region click on Change keyboards or other input methods.
- This opens a new window: Region and Language. Under the Keyboards and Languages tab, click on Change keyboards.
- This opens a new window: Text Services and Input Languages. Under the General tab, click Add.
- This opens a new window: Add Input Language. Scroll through the list to locate the desired language(s).
- To view that language's keyboard options, click the + signs next to the language and "Keyboard."
- Check the boxes to select the languages you want to use.
- Click OK as you go back through all three windows to accept and save changes and exit the menu.
- To toggle between languages now, click on the upper-case two-letter abbreviation (example: EN for English) located in the task bar, bottom right - or click on Show the Language bar to toggle from the top of the screen. (Clicking on the dash will return the toggle tool to the bottom task bar.)
