A Proficiency Test is NOT required to check out these cameras

Precautions

Do not aim the camera directly into the sun or other intense light sources.
Do not immerse camera in liquid or allow to get wet.Wipe dry with soft, absorbent cloth if exterior contacts liquid or salt air.
Do not use, place or store in direct sunlight or in places subject to high temperatures such as the dashboard or trunk of a car.
Do not place camera on speakers, electric motors or other equipment generating strong electromagnetic fields.

Basic Operations

Switching between shooting mode and playback

To enter shooting mode slide the [REC]/PLAYBACK] selector switch to the camera icon. To view images, slide the mode switch to the play icon.

Shooting Modes

Intelligent Auto
The camera will set the most appropriate settings to match the subject and the recording conditions so we recommend this mode for beginners or those who want to leave the settings to the camera and take pictures easily.
  • The Following functions are activated automatically.
Scene detection/[STABILIZER]/Face Detection/Motion Detection/Backlight Compensation/Digital Red-eye Correction
  1. Press the [IA] button on the top of the camera.
  2. Press the shutter button halfway to focus.
  3. Press the shutter button fully to take the picture.
Normal Picture Mode
The camera automatically sets the shutter speed and the aperture value according to the brightness of the subject.
You can take pictures with greater freedom by changing various settings in [REC] menu.
  1. Press [MODE]
  2. Press [UP]/[DOWN] arrows to select [NORMAL PICTURE], and the press [MENU/SET].
  3. Aim the AF area at the point you want to focus on.
  4. Press the shutter button halfway to focus.
  5. Press the shutter button fully to take a picture.
Scene Mode
When you select a Scene Mode to match the subject and recording situation, the camera sets the optimal exposure and hut to obtain the desired picture.
  1. Press [MODE]
  2. Press [UP]/[DOWN] arrows to select [MS] ([My Scene Mode]), and then press [MENU/SET].
  3. Press [UP]/[DOWN]/[LEFT]/[RIGHT] arrows to select the Scene Mode.
  4. Press [MENU/SET] to set.
If you press [DISPLAY] when selecting a Scene Mode, explanations about each Scene Mode are displayed. (If you press [DISPLAY] again, the screen returns to the Scene Mode menu.)
Motion Picture Mode
  1. Press [MODE]
  2. Press [UP]/[Down] arrows and select [MOTION PICTURE], and then press [MENU/SET].
  3. Press the shutter button halfway to focus and then press fully to start recording.
  4. Press the shutter button fully to stop recording.

Image and Movie Resolution

  4. Press [MENU/SET] to exit out of the menu.
In general the finer the resolution, the larger the file size. Keep this in mind when considering how many pictures or movies you need to capture.

Battery Power

Viewing Images on a TV Monitor
  1. Connect the AV cable (supplied) to the video input and the audio input sockets of the TV.
  2. Connect the AV cable to the [AV OUT] sokcet on the camera.
  3. Turn the TV on and select external input.
  4. Turn the camera on.
Note: Depending on the [PICTURE SIZE], black bands may be displayed on the top and bottom or the left and right of the pictures.

Transferring Images to a Computer

  1. Connect the camera to a PC/MAC via the USB connection cable (supplied).
  2. Press [UP]/[DOWN] to select [PC] and the press [MENU/SET]
  3. Double-click on [Removable Disk] in [My Computer]. (When using a MAC, the drive is displayed on the desktop.)
  4. Double-click [DCIM] folder.
  5. Using a drag-and-drop operation, move the pictures you want to acquire or the folder storing those pictures to any different folder on the PC/MAC

Resetting Defaults

After you're done using the Lumix, please return the settings to their default values.

  1. Press the [MENU/SET] button.
  2. Press the [Left] button and then the [DOWN] to select the settings menu (looks like a wrench).
  3. Press the [UP]/[DOWN] buttons to select RESET and press the [RIGHT] button to access.
  4. Press the [UP] button to select YES and then press [MENU/SET] to reset, this step is done twice.

Formatting the Memory Card

  1. Press the [MENU/SET] button.
  2. Press the [Left] button and then the [DOWN] to select the settings menu (looks like a wrench).
  3. Press the [UP]/[DOWN] buttons to select FORMAT and press the [RIGHT] button to access.
  4. Press the [UP] button to select YES and then press [MENU/SET] to format.
You should format the memory card at check out and before returning the camera to ensure the memory card is empty.

Please Note: If the Camera is malfunctioning or not working, please DO NOT ATTEMPT to fix the problem yourself. Take it back to Media Loan and discuss the problem with a media loan staff member.
DO NOT clean the camera using thinners, benzine, Synthetic cleaning substances or water. All above substances may distort or damage camera.
