Learn what to do when you encounter common issues with your registration.

Class Standing and Instructor Signature Errors

  • Instructor Signature Required errors mean that you need the instructor’s permission to enter the class.
  • Class Standing errors happen when a class or program is limited to specific class standings. This occurs when the instructor restricts advanced work to upper division students or restricts entry-level work to lower division students.
    • Contact the instructor to see if they would be willing to give you a class standing override to allow you to enter the class.

Holds

You can also watch the Holds video, prepared by Registration and Records Staff.

  • Navigate to the Prepare for Registration page
  • All holds preventing registration will show here
  • Look for the Originator line. This will tell you what department placed the hold and how to contact them.
  • Contact the department who placed the hold. Only that department can lift the hold.

Status Related Errors

  • If you have applied to graduate, your student status will be “Inactive” for every term after you graduate.
  • If you are on Required Leave of Absence, your Academic Standing Status will be RLA for Required Leave of Absence and will prevent registration. To appeal your Required Leave of Absence, you must speak with the Academic Deans.
  • If you receive an error message that your “Student Status Prevents Registration”, you will need to contact Registration and Records or Admissions for assistance.

Other

After the first week of the quarter, you will no longer be able to register online. To change your registration, you will need to fill out a Registration Add/Drop form, available from Registration and Records. If you receive a message that the class is full and you would like to put yourself on the waitlist, please refer to the Waitlists page. If you registered for a variable credit class and need to change your credits, please refer to the Changing Credits page.
