  • You will need a microphone with an xlr connector, a mic cable, and a desk stand from Media Loan.

Lab Set Up

  1. Turn on the power strip
  2. Turn on the computer.
  3. Log in to the computer.
  4. Connect the microphone to Mic/Instr1 on the from of the 828 in the rack.
  5. Talk into the mic, and adjust the trim knob next to the mic input to set the levels to around -6.
  6. Plug the headphones into the 828's Phones jack.

Skype Set Up

  1. Click the magnifying glass in the top right corner, type "Skype," and select Skype - Applications
  2. Enter your Skype account and click Next.
  3. Enter your password and click Sign In.
  4. Go to Skype > Preferences.
  5. Click on Audio/Video.
  6. Microphone, Ringing, and Speakers should be set to MOTU 828mk3 Hybrid.
  7. Talk into the microphone to check the levels.
  8. Click the red dot in the top left of the window to close the window.

Audio Hijack Set Up

  1. Click the magnifying glass in the top right corner, type "Audio Hijack," and select Audio Hijack
  2. Click New Session in the bottom left corner.
  3. Select Voice Chat, and select Choose.
    • This template will record the output of Skype to an mp3 file.

Make a Call

  1. Find the person you will be calling.
  2. Turn down the volume for the speakers with the volume control box.
  3. Put on the headphones.
  4. Click the phone icon to make an audio call.
  5. When the call connects, adjust the mic levels and headphone levels as needed.

Recording

  1. With the Skype call connected, go back to Audio Hijack.
  2. Click the record button in the lower left corner.
  3. Start the interview.
  4. When you are done, click the record button to stop the recording.


Playback

  1. In the Audio Hijack window, click the record tab.
