Motion Graphics Template Tutorial - AE

Getting Started
Open After Effects
- Open After Effects.
- Go to File > Save As...
- In the bottom left, click New Folder Go to the Desktop, and name the folder.
- At the top name your project and click Save.
Make a New Composition
- Go to Composition > New Composition.
- Name the composition Text template.
- Set Preset to HDTV 1080 29.97
- Set Duration to 00:00:10:00
- Click OK.
Create a Title
Make a Solid
- In the Composition window turn on Title/Action Safe.
- Click in the Timeline and go to Layer > New > Solid...
- Click the box next to the eye dropper and choose a color.
- Set Width to 1920 and Height to 200.
- Click OK.
- Select the solid then hold the shift key and move the solid down so that the bottom aligns with the title safe line.
Animate the Solid
- In the Timeline select the solid and click the triangle to show the properties.
- Click the triangle next to Transform.
- Select position and make sure the playhead is at zero.
- In the Composition window set the scale to 33.3%
- Select the solid, start dragging to the left and then hold down shift to constrain the position. Move the solid out of the composition area.
- In the Timeline click the stopwatch next to Position to set the first keyframe.
- Move the playhead to 3 seconds.
- In the Composition window select the solid, start dragging to the right and then hold down shift to constrain the position. When you let go a new keyframe will be made.
- In the Preview window click return to zero and the play button.
Add a Mask to the Solid
- Select the solid in the Timeline window.
- Go to Layer > Mask > New Mask.
- In the Timeline under the solid open Masks > Mask 1.
- Set Feather to 25.
Add an Effect to the Solid
- Move the playhead to 0 seconds.
- Go to the Effects and Presets window and search for CC Light Burst 2.5
- Drag the effect on to the solid in the Timeline.
- In the Timeline select Effects and CC Light Burst 2.5
- Open the Essential Graphics window.
- Drag Intensity and Ray Length to the Essential Graphics window.
Add Text
- Move the playhead to 3 seconds.
- Select the Horizontal Type tool and add a text block over the solid and within the title safe guides.
- Type "first last" and select the text.
- In the Character panel set the Font to Futura Bold and the size to 100.
- Click the Stroke Color box and set to black.
- Reposition the text if needed.
- In the Timeline select the text layer and drag Source Text to the Essential Graphics window.
Add an Effect to the Text
- Move the playhead to 0 seconds.
- Go to the Effects and Presets window and search for Character Shuffle In.
- Drag the effect on top of the text block.
- In the Timeline select the text layer and open Text > Animator 1 > Range Selector 1 > Advanced.
- Set Random Order to On.
- Open the Essential Graphic Window.
- Drag Random Order and Random Seed to the Essential Graphics window.
Additional Options
- Keyframe other parameters as needed.
- Add settings from the Timeline to Essential Graphics to make them editable in Premiere Pro.
- Go to Effects and Presets window go to *Animation Presets > Backgrounds, select as background and drop on top on the solid in the Composition window.
The Essential Graphics Window
- Solo Supported Properties sets the Timeline to show only the properties that will work with Motion graphic Template.
- Set Poster Frame sets the thumbnail for the template.
- Master chooses which composition to view in the Essential Graphics window.
- Right-click on a property and select Reveal in Timeline to show it it in the Timeline.
- Click a name filed to rename a property.
- Drag properties up or down to reorder them.
- Click Add Comment to add comments that will display in Premiere Pro.
Exporting a Motion Graphics Template
- In the Name filed name the template.
- Set the playhead to a frame to use as the template thumbnail and then click Set Poster Frame.
- Click Export Motion Graphics Template.
- For Destination select Local Drive.
- Click Browse and find your folder.
- Name the template and click Save and then click OK.
Use the Template in Premiere Pro
Set Up Premiere Pro
- Open Premiere.
- Click New Project.
- Name the project.
- Click Browse, go to the Desktop, click New Folder, give it a name and click Create.
- Click OK
- Go to File > New Sequence.
- Broswe to Digital SLR > 1080p DSLR 1080p30.
- Name the Sequence and click OK
Add the Template
- The template getting added to the local library when imported. This will get deleted on log out from the lab computers..
- When a template is added to a sequence it will be added to the project folder.
- Open the Essential Graphic window.
- Click the Browse tab.
- Click the Install Motion Graphics Template on the right.
- Browse to the file, select it and click Open.
Use the Template
- Add a video clip to video 1.
- Add the template to video 2.
- In the Essential Graphic window click the edit button and select the template in the Timeline.
- Change the text and anything else as needed.
- The properties can be keyframed.
