AVCHD (Advanced Video Coding High Definition) is a file-based format for the recording and playback of high definition video. The Vixia video cameras at Media Loan use the AHCHD format.

File Management

When working with AVCHD files it's important to not rename the files and edit any of the contents of the AVCHD folder.

Copying Files from the Memory Card

  1. Create a new folder on the desktop with a meaningful name for the footage.
  2. Put the camera in USB mode or remove the memory card and use a memory card reader
  3. Open the memory card
  4. Open the PRIVATE folder
  5. Drag the AVCHD file to your folder on the desktop.
  6. When you down drag the memory card to the trash to eject it.
  7. Remove the memory card from the reader.

Viewing the footage with QuickTime

  1. Double click the AVCHD file on the desktop.
  2. QuickTime will open a window with all of the clips in the AVCHD file.
  3. Select a clip and click OK.

Backing Up the Files

External Drives

  • Copy the entire folder to an external hard drive or thumb drive.

OneDrive Uploading

  1. In a web browser go to Office.com and sign in with your Evergreen email and password.
  2. On the left click OneDrive
  3. On the top left click My files
  4. Drag your folder from the desktop to the top of the My files window.
  5. The files will upload.

OneDrive Downloading

  1. Select the folder to download by clicking the circle to the left of the name.
  2. At the top click the download button
  3. The folder will download as a .zip file
  4. On macOS double click the file to unzip the file.
