REAPER can do basic editing of still images and videos to create simple slide shows to go along with the audio tracks. This article is asuuming that tou arlready have a project with audio files set up and that you are adding still images or video files.

Set Up

Project Settings

  1. Go to File  > Project settings.
  1. click the Video tab.
  2. Set the Frame rate to 30
  3. Set Preferred video size to 1920 x 1080
  4. Uncheck Always resize video sources to preferred video size
  5. Check Always resize output to preferred video size
  6. Check Use high quality filtering when resizing
  7. Check Preserve aspect ratio (letterbox) when resizing
  8. Click OK

Video Window

  • Go to View > Video to open the Video window

Importing the Media

  1. Copy your still image or video files to the Media folder inside you project folder.

Adding and Editing Images

  1. Drag an image to the empty area in the Tracks window.
  2. Place the image where you want it to start.
  3. To adjust the time of the image drag the right edge of the image to make the still image appear longer.
  4. Drag a second image after the first image
  5. Adjust that images timing.

Resizing and scaling images 

  1. Put the playhead over the clip you want to adjust.
  2. On the clip click the FX button
  3. Select Video processor
  4. Click Add
  5. In the FX window click on (customized processor)
  6. Select Basic helpers: track opacity/zoom/pan
  7. Adjust Zoom to zoom in on the image
  8. Adjust the X offset or the Y offset to adjust the horizontal or vertical postion


Cross dissolves of images

  1. On the track with the still images click the FX button
  2. Select Video processor
  3. Click Add
  4. In the FX window click on (customized processor)
  5. Select Basic helpers: item fades affect video
  6. Drag the clips to overlap them and to adjust the cross dissolve

Exporting Video

  1. Go to File  > Render...
  2. For File name enter a meaningful file name.
  3. For Format select MPEG-4/MOV
  4. Click Render 1 file
