Proficiency with O2R
From Help Wiki
- Sign log book
- Turn on the rack mount power strip to the right of the 02R
- Turn on the rack mount power strip on the bottom left of the patch bay rack
- Turn on computer
- Use the Samsung remote to power on the large displays
- Sign into the computer with your Evergreen account
- Make sure the Universal Audio Apollo X16 audio interface connects to the computer. A loading bar that says "Connecting to Apollo X16" should briefly appear. An application called Universal Audio Console will open, which runs in the background. It can be ignored and/or closed.
- Confirm that the main audio output of the computer is coming out of Apollo outs 9 and 10 by opening a web browser and playing some sound. Always allow applications to access the microphone if prompted, or audio will not play! Look for audio on the Apollo's LED meters to confirm audio is coming out. You might need to switch the meter display from showing inputs to showing outputs with the button on the front panel labeled "METER."
- Open your preferred DAW. If Pro Tools:
- Make a new Session
- Select a Template from the *TESC folder
- Save to the Desktop
- Explain the normals between some of the studio mic receptacles and the Yamaha 02R
- What mixer scene should we be using when doing multitrack recording with the 02R? How do you recall (load) this scene?
- Show how to change between fader layers of the 02R. What do we use the first layer for? What about the second layer?
- Explain the normals between the 02R and Apollo inputs 1-8. How are the outputs of "02R Slot 2 Out" defined in the mixer scene we are using?
- Connect a mic to a mic receptacle
- Patch mic receptacle into O2R input 1
- Identify and explain the controls for phantom power, pad, and input gain on the 02R. Set preamp level for the mic
- Set channel and Stereo Fader level
- Bring up control room volume
- Explain the normals between the 02R and Headphone Cues A and B. How are "02R Omni Out" 7 and 8 defined in the mixer scene we are using?
- Send the microphone signal on 02R input 1 to Cue A. What Aux send corresponds to Headphone Cue A?
- Create a click track and assign its output to Cue A. What output of the Apollo will most easily reach Cue A with the mixer scene we are using?
- Record something with the microphone in sync with the click track
- Play back the track
- How can we get the artist to also hear the track they already recorded, so as to record an overdub in sync with what they already recorded and the click track? Record a second layer
- Play back both tracks
- Bounce a rough mix of what you recorded
- Save ProTools session
- Quit Protools
- Log out and shut down computer
