Exploding a Polywav File in REAPER

When recording directly to SD card on the Mixcast, all tracks are recorded to a single file called a Polywav. A Polywav file is a multichannel .wav file. The Polywav that the Mixcast records contains 14 channels. In order to edit and mix the tracks on these channels, it can be useful to break the Polywav file into its individual tracks.

In REAPER:

• Drag the Polywav file into REAPER's Timeline. REAPER will create a new track for it.
• Right click on the Polywav Media Item.
• Hover over "Item Processing," and choose "Explode multichannel audio or MIDI items to new one-channel items."
• All channels will now appear as individual tracks within a "Parent Track" (folder).
• It can be useful to delete individual tracks that are empty or otherwise not needed.
• It can be useful to drag individual tracks out from under the Parent Track.
