Getting Started

  • Premiere Pro is a non-destructive non-linear video editing application.
  • Parts of it may seem similar to After Effects but other parts will function differently.
  • There are advanced features for linking After Effects and Premiere Pro.
  • What is Premiere Pro

File Management

  • Do not work directly from Orca.
  • Make a folder on the Desktop with a meaningful name.
  • Make sub-folders called
    • Video
    • Stills
    • Premiere_Files
    • Audio
  • Copies all source files to the appropriate folders.

Premiere Basics

New Project

  1. Open Premiere Pro
  2. Click New Project
  3. Click Browse
  4. Navigate to the project folder you created earlier.
  5. Select the Premiere_Files folder and click Choose.
  6. Give the project a meaningful name.
  7. Click OK.

Importing Media

Importing Media Files
  1. Open the Media Browser
  2. Go to the Desktop
  3. Find your folder
  4. Preview files
  5. Right-click and select Import
Importing Image Sequences
  1. Go to File > Import...
  2. Browse to the files.
  3. Select file of the first frame.
  4. Click the Options button in the lower left.
  5. Click the Image Sequence box.
  6. Click Import.

Create a New Sequence

  • It is easier to import your files into Premiere before creating a new sequence.
  1. Import your video files into the project.
  2. Pick a file which represents the majority of your files (in terms of dimensions, frame rate, compression etc).
  3. Select that file in the Project panel. Right click and select New Sequence From Clip.
  4. A new Sequence will be added to the Project panel and it will open int the Timeline panel.
  5. Change the sequence name to something meaningful by clicking on the sequence name in the Project panel.

Exporting

  • Exporting Video Article
  • Adobe Media Encoder allows you to export multiple versions of the same sequence and it allows you to keep working in Premiere while export is encoding.
  1. To use Adobe Media Encoder first follow the steps above.
  2. Click the Queue button and Adobe Media Encoder will open.
  3. Drag a preset onto the name of your sequence to add the preset to the Queue.
    1. Use the 1920 Screening ProRes 422LT preset for class playback.
    2. Use the H.264 Match Source - High Bit Rate for Windows playback and uploading to Youtube.
  4. Click the Start Queue button (green play button) to start the exporting.
