This lab has a MOTU 828mk3 audio Interface.  It has multiple inputs and outputs.  Unfortunately the order and labeling of the inputs and outputs in the audio applications can be confusing.

Inputs

  • There are two XLR/1/4" mic/instrument inputs on the front.
    • Microphones can be connected to theses inputs with XLR cables.
    • Guitars can be connected with 1/4" cables.
    • Each input has:
      • Trim control knob for setting levels
      • Pad for reducing inout levels
  • There are eight 1/4" line level inputs on the back.
    • Inputs 1 and 2 are connected to the patchbay.
    • The main outputs of the mixer are connected directly to inputs 3 and 4.
    • The other inputs are not being used.
    • Do not connect or disconnect cables on the back.

Outputs

  • There are two XLR Main outputs on the back.
    • Theses are connected directly to the Volume Control Box.
  • There are eight 1/4" line level outputs on the back.
    • Outputs 1 and 2 are connected to the patchbay.
    • The other outputs are not being used.
    • Do not connect or disconnect cables on the back.

Labeling

  • The various audio applications may refer to the inputs and outputs with slightly different names.
  • We have tried to set the preferences to meaningful names but sometimes they may revert back to the default names.

Inputs

  • Mic/Instrument inputs come before the line inputs.
  • This makes the numbering of the analog inputs confusing.
    • For example analog input 1 is input 3.

Outputs

  • The Main outputs inputs come before the line outputs.
  • This makes the numbering of the analog outputs confusing.
    • For example analog output 1 is output 3.
