Difference between revisions of "Enable Panopto in My Canvas Course"

Faculty, learn how to activate Panopto for your Canvas Course.

You are not required to use Zoom or Panopto. If you would like to utilize these tools in your teaching and learning, there are two scenarios to be aware of regarding successful implementation at your Canvas site.

Scenario 1: Zoom and Panopto are available in the Course Navigation Menu - requires single action to complete setup

When you receive your curricular Canvas site, Zoom and Panopto may already be available to you and your students in the site's Course Navigation Menu. Zoom and Panopto are setup in Canvas to work together, like this:

1. When using Zoom and you make a recording to the cloud,
2. that recording will automatically be moved to your Panopto account and should display/be available to students at the "Panopto Video" page of your Canvas site.

IMPORTANT - Action required to complete setup - Before using Zoom, however, you need to complete/activate the setup by visiting the "Panopto Video" page of your site. (You only need to make that initial click/visit once to complete setup, you don't need to click on the Panopto page every time you use Zoom.)

Scenario 2: Zoom and Panopto are not showing in Course Nav - requires editing Nav Menu and then action to complete setup

If you would like to use Zoom and Panopto but are not seeing them in your site's Course Navigation Menu, here are the steps for "activating" the tools:

1. Click “Settings” at bottom of the Course Navigation Menu
2. Select the “Navigation” tab (located about top middle of the page)
   • At the “Navigation” page, there is a top section and a bottom section
   • Generally, areas of Canvas you want to share with students or tools you need to activate go in the top section
3. Scroll down the list of navigation tabs to locate “Panopto Video”
4. At the Panopto Video tab, click on the 3 dots at the right end and select "Enable"
5. Once enabled, you can drag and drop the navigation element to reposition it in the menu - we recommend next to the Zoom link
6. Important step: When finished, click the blue “Save” button at the bottom left of the page
7. Click on the newly added "Panopto Video" Nav link in your Canvas course to finish activation (that initial visit completes the setup)
