Canvas is recommended for use by all curricular programs and courses. Sites can be self-initiated by faculty and instructors. Use of Microsoft Education (in Canvas) or WordPress (in addition to Canvas) is optional. WordPress can be requested through help.evergreen.edu.

Step 1- At your My Evergreen page, under the "Faculty" section, click on the "Canvas" link. (Note: This "Canvas" link doesn't open to Canvas, it goes to your list of programs and courses.)
Step 3 - Choose option to clone or apply a template
Step 3a - Option: "Clone an existing Canvas site"
Step 3b - Option: "Create a new Canvas site" (apply a template)
Step 3b - Click a template name to select it.

To self-initiate Canvas for your offering:

Go to your My Evergreen page (at my.evergreen.edu)

  1. Under the “Faculty” section, click on the "Canvas" request link. This link should open to your "Academic Resources" page at which there should be a list of offerings in the middle of the page. The offerings will be highlighted green or yellow depending on the academic year.
  2. Click an offering's title to open the Canvas activation page.
  3. At the next page, under the section, "Activate Canvas for your Offering," click the triangle next to "Canvas" to view and choose the options to either clone an existing Canvas site or create a site with a template or set it to generate as a unstructured Canvas shell. See Canvas Site Templates for options.
  • For option, "Clone an existing Canvas site" (see image for Step 3a)
    • Enter a "shortname" for your offering followed by the term - example, "Field Studies VES Sp27" is a shorter version of the offering name, "Field Studies in Volcanic Eco-Systems" and "Sp27" indicates "Spring 2027".

Note: Cloning is only available for single-term offerings. To have a multi-term series of sites cloned, please submit a support request to Academic Technologies.

  • Step 3b - For option, "Create a new Canvas site" (apply a template) (see image for Step 3b)
    • Enter a "shortname" and term (see above for example)
    • Use the drop-down below the shortname field to select which template you'd like to apply to your new site.

After you've self-initiated Canvas, the site (or sites) should become available within one to two hours at your Canvas Dashboard and can also be accessed at your My Evergreen (my.evergreen.edu) page via the Canvas icon or the "Canvas Home" link.

If you select WordPress (sites.evergreen.edu), the site will be created by Academic Technologies support staff and you will be contacted when the site is available.

Orca program fileshares are reserved for GIS offerings. After initiation by faculty/instructor, a program fileshare will auto-generate once the offering becomes available for registration, and students' Cubbies will populate as students register for your offering.
