Requesting a Team
Staff
Most staff work areas already have a Team available for use.
- If you need an additional Team created, please submit a Microsoft Teams Request.
- For questions about Teams, please submit a Technology Support Request.
Alert: Once your Team has been created turn-off member permissions in your Team settings so that members cannot create private channels or delete channels.
Responsibilities of the owner of a Microsoft team
The owner of a Microsoft Team is responsible for:
- Managing access permissions to the Team and regularly auditing membership and permissions.
- Securing data in the Team to match access permissions.
- Managing data in the team according to state record retention guidelines.
- Submitting requests for changes to the Team to IT staff including deleting the Team when no longer in use.
- Providing designated backup owners for Teams, private and shared channels in the event of the primary owner departs the college.
- Managing student employee access:
- Ensuring that student employee accounts are used for membership and not their personal-academic account.
- Because students cannot be responsible for maintaining state or educational records they should only have member-level permissions and not be assigned as owners.
- We recommend having student employees setup on their own Team and using shared channels to connect to the pro-staff Team.
Faculty
- Faculty: Create a Team connecting with your Canvas course. See: Microsoft Teams Classes Canvas Integration. For FERPA compliance we can only create Teams that are directly associated with Canvas course enrollment.
Students
We currently do not support creating Teams for students. Please work with your faculty to connect a Team to your Canvas course.
