When to Use This

  • Showing supplementary data using:
  1. Worksheets or charts from Microsoft Excel
  2. Equations from Microsoft Equation 3.0 or Microsoft Graph Charts
  3. Microsoft Word documents
  4. OpenDocument presentations, spreadsheets, or text documents
  5. Slides or whole presentations from other Microsoft PowerPoint presentations
  • Adding pictures to illustrate ideas using:
  1. Documents created through Adobe applications, like Adobe Acrobat or Photoshop
  2. ACD/3D or ACD/ChemSketch images - these are especially helpful for presentations where you need to show 3D images of chemical structures. You can also manipulate the 2D or 3D models within the program.
  3. Bitmap images (.bmp files) - these are not so fancy but are very compatible with different image processing programs across different operating systems. For example, Windows Paint images are saved as .bmp files.


Note: You cannot import movies from Quicktime, Adobe Macromedia Director or a video DVD directly into your PowerPoint. You can visit the following for assistance.

How to

  • To insert an Excel worksheet or chart, simply select the item, right-click copy it, and then use the Paste or Paste Special commands in PowerPoint to insert it into a slide.
  • For most of the other objects, click the Insert tab at the top menu of the PowerPoint window and select Object on the far right of the 'Text' category of insertable items. Select the type of object you intend to insert.
