Teams Phone Quick Start.


Audience: Faculty, Staff, and Student Employees
New to Teams Phone? This guide helps you transition from traditional handsets to our campus cloud calling system.

Getting Started

Before you dive into the features, ensure your hardware is ready.

  • Audio Check: Use a certified headset (recommended) or your computer’s built-in mic/speakers.
  • The App: Ensure you are logged into the Microsoft Teams desktop client for the best experience.

Core Calling Features

Make a Call Use the Calls tab or type a name in the search bar. First things to know video (1:31)
Answer a Call Look for the pop-up notification in the corner of your screen. Accept or decline calls
Transfer a Call Select ... (More Actions) then Transfer. How to transfer video (1:45)
Add Someone New Select People > Participants > Select the contact to add Add someone new and create a group call
Place a Call on Hold Select Hold at the top of your call window Place a call on hold
Check Voicemail Go to Calls > History and select Voicemail. Greetings can be managed in Settings > Calls. Did you know? You can also read your voicemails in your email inbox. Check your voicemail video (1:53)
Manage Call Settings Select Settings and more > Settings > Calls Manage call settings


Campus-Specific Configuration

Note: Some advanced features like Call Queues or Auto Attendants are managed at the department level. If you believe you should be part of a queue and don't see it, contact your department Lead.
