Overview

This article describes recording a microphone with the MiniFuse 2 interface into Adobe Audition.

  • You will need to get an microphone with an XLR connector from Media Loan.
  • You will also need an XLR mic cable

Audio Interface

The Video Edit Suites have a MiniFuse 2 audio interface.

  • There are two XLR/1/4" mic/instrument inputs on the front.
    • Microphones can be connected to theses inputs with XLR cables.
    • Guitars can be connected with 1/4" cables.
    • Each input has:
      • Gain control
        • Rotate the knob to adjust levels
      • Hi-Z
        • Press when connecting high impedance sources like an electric guitar.
      • Phantom Power
        • Press the 48V button

Creating a Session in Audition

  • Open Audition from the dock
  • If prompted sign to the Creative Cloud Desktop app with your Evergreen email and password.
  • Go to File > New > Multitrack Session...
  • In the New Multitrack Session window set the following settings
    1. Session Name: use a meaningful name.
    2. Folder Location: Click Browse and select your folder on your Desktop.
    3. Template : None
    4. Sample Rate: 48000
    5. Bit Depth : 24
    6. Master: Stereo
    7. Click OK

Recording

Setting Up the MiniFuse 2

  1. Turn down the Monitor knob on the MiniFuse 2.
  2. Set up a microphone.
  3. Plug your microphone into the front of the MiniFuse 2 Input 1
  4. Set the preamp levels with the Gain knob.
  5. Adjust the gain knob while looking at the LED light on the Input 1 knob.
  6. Turn up the gain control until the light is red. Then turn back the gain control until it is blue.
  7. Set the Input Monitor Mix knob to 12:00.
  8. Set the MiniFuse 2 headphone knob to 2:00.
  9. Press the Direct Mono button to hear the microphone signal in both sides of the headphones.
  10. Adjust the volumes knob on the headphone amp for each headphone that you are using.
    • If the input meters look good but it’s still hard to hear, try turning up the headphone level.

Recording the First Track

  1. Set the input of track 1 to Mono > System Default - MiniFuse 2: Mic/Line/Inst 1
  2. Click the Track Record Enable button on track 1.
  3. Check record levels and headphone levels.
  4. Click the Record button in the Transport bar.
  5. Click the Stop button when done
  6. Click the Track Record Enable button on track 1 to unarm the track.
  7. Click Play to playback the recording.
    • Turn the Input Monitor Mix all the way to the right to only hear playback
    • Turn up the Monitor knob to listen on the speakers.

Recording a Second Track While Monitoring Track 1

  1. Set the input of track 2 to Mono > System Default - MiniFuse 2: Mic/Line/Inst 1
  2. Click the Track Record Enable button on track 2.
  3. Check record levels and headphone levels.
  4. Click the Play button to and adjust Input Monitor Mix to change the balance of the microphone and the Pro Tool playback.
  5. Cue Audition to where you want it to start.
  6. Click the Record button.
  7. Click the Stop button when done
  8. Click the Track Record Enable button on track 2 to unarm the track.
  9. Click Play to playback the recording.
    • Turn the Input Monitor Mix all the way to the right to only hear playback
    • Turn up the Monitor knob to listen on the speakers.

 Importing a Video File

  1. Select Multitrack > Tracks > Add Video Track from the toolbar.
  2. Make sure that your video file has been moved to the folder with for the Audition session.
  3. Drag the video file to the beginning of the Video Reference track.
    • You can mute or delete the audio if it is not needed.
  4. If there was audio i the video it will be imported to track 1.
  5. In top right of Audition click the Video on Second Display window set button.
    • The Video window will show up on the second display.

Playback

  • If you need to listen to the audio with the speakers turn off the Input button
    • Click the I button.
  • Take off the headphones.
  • Now you can turn up the silver output knob ion the Zoom UAC-2 and the listen with the speakers.

Editing and Exporting

  • After recording you can edit the audio.
  • You will need to export the Multitrack Session to a mono or stereo wav file when you are done
  • Read Multitrack Editor - Audition for more details

 End of Session

  1. Remember to save your Session before closing the file.
  2. Back ups the entire folder to an external drive or OneDrive.
  3. Quit Audition.
  4. Turn all monitor knob down.
  5. Shutdown the computer.
