Intro: How Zoom and Panopto Work Together
All Zoom cloud recordings are set to auto-import into Panopto. (This was set up January 2022. Recordings made prior to 2022 are no longer available. If you have questions, please submit a support request at help.evergreen.edu.)
- For Faculty: in Canvas, Zoom and Panopto are setup to work together. In order for this setup to be effective:
- prior to using Zoom, faculty need to complete the setup by making an initial visit to the site's "Panopto Video" page, this action auto-creates a Panopto course folder
- faculty then need to create Zoom sessions via their Canvas site's "Zoom" page
- after that is set up, any Zoom cloud recordings that are made should automatically get moved over to your site's Panopto page
- any recordings that happen to land in the Panopto "Meeting Recordings" folder will need to be manually moved to the Panopto Canvas course folder
Panopto how-to video: Using the Panopto Integration in Canvas (4:15 minutes)
How Recordings are Processed from Zoom to Panopto
- Zoom cloud recordings get processed by Zoom after the meeting ends.
- Once a meeting is processed by Zoom it will get imported into Panopto.
- Captions
- If the Zoom audio transcript is enabled it will import into Panopto as captions.
- If there is no transcript from Zoom, Panopto will auto-generate captions.
- Zoom chat will import into Panopto.
- Captions
- Panopto only imports video files.
- If you have Record audio-only files enabled in Zoom those files will stay in the Zoom cloud storage.
- Check your Zoom Cloud Recordings settings at https://evergreen.zoom.us/
Timeline for File Deletion from Zoom
- Zoom cloud recordings will be deleted within 72 hours after the Panopto import.
- Deleted files are in the Zoom trash for 30 days.
- See Zoom guide: a deleted local or cloud recording
Zoom Meetings Associated with a Canvas Course and Connection with Panopto
- If a Zoom meeting is associated with a Canvas course, and initial setup by faculty has been completed prior to using Zoom, recordings made to the Zoom Cloud should automatically move over into the Panopto folder for that Canvas course and display at the site's "Panopto Video" for student viewing.
- If recordings are not displaying at the "Panopto Video" page they are likely in the user's Panopto "Meeting Recordings" folder and will need to be moved manually from that folder to the Canvas course folder.
Regular Zoom Meetings (created outside of Canvas)
If a Zoom meeting is not associated with a Canvas course it will be imported to the host's Panopto Meeting Recordings folder.
- Sign into Panopto at evergreen.hosted.panopto.com
- Click the My Folder button in the top left
- Click the Meeting Recordings folder
