The Microsoft Education integration replaces older Microsoft LTI tools, providing direct access to Microsoft 365 Education experiences, including Teams for collaboration and OneDrive within Canvas. The older integrations, including the classic Class Teams LTI were sunset on September 15, 2025.
Initial Setup
- From your Canvas course, go to Settings > Navigation
- Enable the Microsoft Education navigation
- Click Save
For more info on course navigation, see: How do I manage Course Navigation links?
Configure
Once the Microsoft Education navigation has been added to your course nav, you can configure the options:
- Select Microsoft Education from the Course Navigation menu
- Select Continue Setup
- Select General
- Select the features that you would like to use. Choices include:
- Teams - setup a Team connected to your Canvas course
- OneDrive - easily share files in Canvas from your OneDrive
- Teams Meetings - schedule Team meetings with your class
- Optional: If you would like to opt out of receiving email notifications about new features and service changes to the Microsoft 365 LTI app, select Notifications, and toggle off Email Notifications
If you wish to change your selections later
- Select your user icon (upper right), and choose Course Settings.
- Select Done
- Wait for your class to be set up – this may take a few minutes. You will see a dashboard showing tiles for the items you enabled once your class has been set up. You may return to this dashboard at anytime by selecting Microsoft Education in your Course Navigation menu.
