This is your setup guide. Once you have completed the hardware and software checks below, proceed to our Using Teams Phone for a deep dive into making calls, managing voicemail and using more advanced features.

Step 1: Check Your Eligibility

  • Audience: Faculty, Staff, and Student Employees.
  • Student Employees: Your manager determines eligibility. Note that access is tied to your Microsoft 365 license.

Step 2: Prepare Your Hardware

You don’t need a desk phone to stay connected. Teams Phone works on the devices you already have:

  • Laptops: Built-in microphones are supported.
  • Headsets: OIT issues a one-time wired headset upon request. Contact your manager if you require a wireless model.
  • Desk Phones: Reserved for special circumstances. The Teams App is our primary and most efficient calling method.
