Microsoft Immersive Reader in Canvas

Microsoft Immersive Reader is a text-to-speech tool available in areas of Canvas that display an "Immersive Reader" button at the upper right.
What is text-to-speech?
"Text-to-Speech" means a tool or feature which allows a computer to read digital and web-based content aloud.
Where can I use Microsoft Immersive Reader (MIR)?
- MIR is available for use where ever you see the "Immersive Reader" button at the upper right of the page, such as at course Home pages, general pages, the Canvas "Syllabus" page, and Assignments.
- It is not available at Quizzes, for files, or external content. See below for alternative text-to-speech methods.
What text-to-speech tool can I use for files, quizzes, and external web-based content?
Apple mobile/tablet devices and Mac computers feature the built-in screen reader, "VoiceOver"
Windows computers offer "Narrator"
Web Browsers
- Most web browsers have free built-in text-to-speech or extensions that can be installed by the user.
For files in Canvas
- "Word" files: download and open the file in Word, click "View" - in the toolbar, click "Immersive Reader"
For web-based external content, a text-to-speech tool/plugin should be available via the browser or one can be installed by the user.
