Merge Clips
- If you record audio and video simultaneously on separate recorders the clips will need to be synchronized in Premiere Pro.
Effects and Transitions
- To add an effect or transition to a clip go to the Effects panel and drag the effect to a clip.
- The Effect Controls panel is used to view and change effect settings.
- The Effect Controls will show the effects and settings for the clip that is currently selected in the Timeline.
- The default Video Effects are Motion, Opacity and Time Remapping.

Speed and Duration
- The Speed/Duration settings can be used to quickly change the speed of a clip.
- Time Remapping can be used for more complicated adjustments.
Subsequence and Nest
- Subsequences allow you to merge a section of clips in to another sequence.
- Sequences can be added to other sequences to help organize clips or to add an effect to a selection of clips.
- In the Timeline select a group of clips, right-click and select Nest... or Make Subsequence.
- Nest will make a a subsequence and replace the video tracks with the new sequence.
- If any audio is selected it is part of the new subsequence but it doesn't replace the audio tracks in the original sequence.
- Make Subsequence makes a new sequence and adds it to the Project panel this can then be added to another sequence.
Chroma Keying
- Chroma Key effects allow you to select a color to make transparent. Another image or video can the be inserted into the transparent area.
- Normally video is recorded with a green or blue background.
- The background color that will be keyed out should only be used for the background.
- For example do not have an actor wear green if there is a green background.
